Investigating the Washback Effect of Examinations Phobia in EFL Learning Context Students and Teachers’ Perceptions

The effects of testing on students learning a foreign language have been the subject substantial investigation in related literature. In practice, majority teachers evaluate their through scheduled tests that they hold following semester's initial syllabuses. This qualitative study investigated importance washback effect (negative and positive) examinations Saudi EFL undergraduates at Majmaah University considering perceptions to learning, teaching methodology, course contents. adopts approach conducting interviews collect data from students. was analyzed thematic analysis. interpreted about issues such as contents course. results indicated learners’ fear examination level increased performance decreased when were aware assessment terms lack background knowledge, grammar syntax, content, methodology. pedagogical implications authentic activities, formative assessment, skills.
